Hello, my name is Megan and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive knowledge of the hurdles faced by our military service members and their families no matter whether they are Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, or a Veteran. I also have experience working with Couples and Individuals that are currently using or experiencing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) within their relationship. Outside of military culture and IPV, I have a background in working with kids with special needs, the elderly population, and those struggling with an array of mental illnesses/life transitions.
I believe that our past influences our future. Therefore, I use genograms, timelines, and patterns identified through assessment to explore what my clients have experienced and bring into their relationships/therapy room. I also use analogies, metaphors, and visualizations to breakdown the barrier between the professional healthcare world and the real world. My hope is that by making it easier for my clients to connect to/understand/remember important information from sessions the increased ability they have to implement it in their everyday life.
Marriage and Family Therapy is my passion and you can see it in my commitment to my clients. I am an energetic, supportive, and direct clinician. I am what they consider in the clinical world an experiential therapist, which means I like to use different activities or props during sessions to help my clients move past what talk therapy can’t necessarily do for some. I also believe that a lot of the change process happens outside of the session. Therefore, I tend to assign homework to my clients in order to help them continue the growth in between sessions and identify any barriers that might be present.
I love working as a team with my clients so if you are interested in working together to conquer the mountains in front of you… I look forward to it!
Always,
Megan Humphrey, LMFT
